Letters sent, 1830-1841.

The collection comprises four letters sent by Martin Archer Shee from his address in Cavendish Square, London. He thanks William Smith M.P. for the friendly congratulations he sent him on his election as president of the Royal Academy, following the death of Sir Thomas Lawrence (1830 Jan. 30). Shee sends the keeper of the Academy, William Hilton, the copy of a letter from the Lords of the Treasury, asking him "to give possession of the rooms on the principal floor at Somerset House to the Chancellor of the University of London" (1837 March 1). He informs an officer of the Academy that he is back from his trip, and will remain in town (1841 Sept. 23, London). The fourth item is the last page of a letter sent to an unnamed Lord, whose intervention would help someone well recommended, who is in a difficult situation (n.d.).
